Guru Nanaks Free Kitchen is a non-profit group, that was setup in 2007 by a group of like-minded professionals in British Columbia. One of the core founding principles of the group was to keep events simple and not have the need to collect financial donations.
With the number of events increasing, the group was in a desperate need of a vehicle that would help transport meals downtown and in the summer of 2010, Khalsa Credit Union donated a truck to GNFK. With the truck the running expenses such as gas, repairs and insurance was the sole responsibility of GNFK and what we've ended doing is asking businesses to over expenses and volunteers to chip in and purchase gas cards for to cover gas supplies.
Guru Nanaks Free Kitchen serves around 4000 meals a month, and has been consistently doing so for the last few years. With the growing number of homeless and low income members of our society needing assistance, we expect to have more events downtown Vancouver and in other municipalities around the Lower Mainland.
These events can only be successful with the assistance of individuals, families, and businesses.
Donors or sponsor families can assist GNFK by donating the following items to one of the drop off points in the Lower Mainland:
- Basmati or Long Grain Rice
- Milk Homogenized
- White Sugar
- Peeled Garlic
- Green Chilies
- Cooking oil 2 Liters
- Crushed Tomatoes
- Powdered Juice
- Tea 144Bags
- 9” Disposable Plates
- 8 oz Disposable Bowls
- 9 oz Disposable Cups
- Disposable Spoons
- $50 Gas Cards For The Truck
All supplies can be dropped off at Gurdwara Sukh Sagar, New Westminster and Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, Surrey- Please call 604-442-7382 ahead of time to see what items we may be in need of the most and to confirm a drop off location or confirm that items are received.
